WE GENERATE LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS, in which they EXPLORE the environment AND USE SCIENce TO UNDERSTAND AND PROTECT THEIR NATURAL WEALTH.

OUR REACH

Between all the schools we work with, and with the important collaboration of teachers, we have access to over 800 high school students who live in the small coastal communities and ranches of the Southeast Region.

These communities are home of a great biodiversity with unique species in the world and Natural Areas recognized as World Heritage Sites, which atract each year, an increasing amount of visitors and tourist development projects.

Now more than ever, is imperative to have more young Eco-leaders who move our communities towards conservation.

THE BEGINING OF ETA

In 2018 we partnered with Monterey Bay Aquarium to develop the program and to expand it in the Southeast Region of BCS. Teachers and principals of the two larger schools ls in Santiago and Los Planes, attended in-depth training sessions at the Aquarium. In Mexico we partnered with SEP (the Public Education Secretariat), research centers, and other educational organizations, to develop curricular programs, expeditions and workshops for them.

Teachers are the true heart of our program.

OUR PARTNERS IN EDUCATION

THIS IS HOW ETA WORKS

CURRENT ACTIONS

TEACHERS WORKSHOPS

Through our workshops with SEP and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, teachers learn about project based learning and other conservation educational tools. By using digital platforms we have been able to increase our reach to other communities of BCS.

EDUCATIONAL PLATFORMS

Along with teachers and partner institutions, we created a Water conservation and Plastic curricula which are available online. Click on the following links to check out our sites:

YOUNG ECO-LEADERS

We advise, train, support and provide the spaces in forums and expos for students working in sustainable projects focused on critical issues for our region such as water, plastic pollution and biodiversity preservation.

STUDENTS FOR WATER IN THE SOUTHEAST REGION

We have witnessed the full positive cycle of our program around a critical issue for the communities, water conservation. As a result of exploring our water roads guided by scientist and experts, and working with our ETA curricular activities, different groups are developing citizen science and projects to uderstand and preserve our already scarce water sources.

ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE

WHAT'S NEXT?

  • Share our curricular programs with the entire local educational community and continue to improve our online platform.

  • Strengthen the Environmental Educators network in Baja California Sur as well as our Young Agents of Change network (Red de Adolescentes Agentes de Cambio | RAAC).

  • Develop new curricular materials on topics such as biodiversity and climate change.

  • Continue building educational platforms by publishing content on our websites and opening spaces where teachers and students can collaborate.

“Education to Action is not just about a group of students and their teachers. These are educators who are highly committed to the more than 1,000 young people who will graduate in the coming 3 years to become decision-makers in this region, responsible for its sustainable development and prepared for climate change. It is about critical thinking, fighting for the common good and taking an active role in the management of their communities and the conservation of their natural resources. It is about fresh water, biodiversity, climate change, and the sustainability of the Southeast Region.”
