Environmental Education Campus in Cabo Pulmo

The Environmental Education Campus in Cabo Pulmo is an initiative of BAJA COASTAL INSTITUTE (BCI) created to promote environmental education, science outreach, and community engagement focused on the terrestrial and marine ecosystems of southeastern Baja California Sur.

This space serves as a gathering point for residents, students, educators, researchers, and visitors interested in learning about, understanding, and caring for the territory surrounding Cabo Pulmo National Park.

In addition to managing and maintaining the facilities, BCI promotes and coordinates a wide range of free events and activities held at the Campus, including:

  • Talks and public conversations led by researchers

  • Guided walks for observing local flora and fauna

  • Classes, workshops, and activities for children focused on caring for the park and nature

  • Book and film presentations on related topics

  • Community forums on the sustainable development of our communities

A NEW CHAPTER

Over the past year, the Environmental Education Campus has gone through a period of transition. As part of the conclusion of a collaborative cycle, one of the partner organizations decided to relocate the Visitor Center that was part of the Campus to another community. As a result, this space ceased operations on March 1, 2025.

While this change required a significant adjustment, it also opens the door to new opportunities to strengthen and reimagine environmental outreach and learning spaces in Cabo Pulmo.

During this transition, the Learning Center has continued to operate normally, keeping its doors open to the community, partner organizations, and those working in Cabo Pulmo National Park. This space remains a gathering place for meetings, workshops, and educational activities, making use of the infrastructure and conditions that support collaborative work.

During 2025, a total of 32 workshops, courses, meetings, and events were held at these facilities.

LOOKING AHEAD

BCI is currently working on the design and creation of new science outreach spaces within the Campus that will allow us to share information about the region’s ecosystems with residents and visitors.

The reopening of these spaces will be announced soon through our official channels.
